ST. JOSEPH’S CONVENT, PUTHUR
The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha originated in Ponnukkara, Thrissur and most of its property and rice paddy fields were in Puthur. It was very difficult for the sisters to walk miles to get there to cultivate the fields, and harvest the crops. Therefore in 1967 we started the St. Joseph convent. After three years, the convent was renovated and inaugurated by Mar George Alappatt the bishop of Thrissur diocese. Besides a nursery school at the request of the people to give an excellent educational foundation for their little children, the sisters started a tailoring center to provide self –employment for women in the neighborhood. In 2009 we added a ‘Play School’ to meet their needs. The sisters participate in the parish apostolate such as teaching catechism, host making, leading the house-meetings, conducting house visits etc. The sisters remain a shining beacon of hope for the society and give praise and honor to God by their lives.
